What is Skill-based learning?
Skill-based learning means we teach every student from foundational level and ground up our student’s understanding from the basics before moving to more advanced topic. Our Chemistry tuition is heavily committed to years of sorting past year O level and exam questions to a highly curated skill-based exam packet. Students at Seb Academy are taught, from a simple understanding, to data handling, to intuitive conclusion. Just like building a structure, we aim to build a strong a solid base. A structure with an unstable foundation is prone to collapsing. We understand how it is like to struggle and feel with you trying to get your results while doing so. This is why at Seb Academy, we strongly believe in empathy and build our students’ foundation through a rigorous Chemistry tuition program.

New Changes to the O Level Chemistry Syllabus
Unlike the previous 5072/5073 or 0620 (iGCSE) or 0654 (iGCSE) Syllabuses, the new SEAB syllabus tests heavily on deductive skills. MOE seemed to have a shift towards this stance, to help promote critical thinking in students. Students are tested to draw information such as numbers from various graphs and tables, such as enthalpy of fuels, to draw sound hypothesis before testing these applications. As such, it is no longer regurgitation to excel at the O level Chemistry exam. What do our students do if this is such a change? How do they obtain excellent results? Would they be at a handicap to handle the demands of the new syllabuses?
How does
Seb Academy teach students
to prepare for
the O levels differently?
How difficult is the O level Chemistry Database Question
The problem is compounded in the database question, otherwise known as the most difficult question in the Chemistry Paper 2 Section B (B7 or B8) question. This tests students to draw out useful information before analysing and making logical conclusions. The average score for such database questions in schools can be as low as 30%. This means that this type of question cannot be solved by well structured notes or good lesson plans alone. It does make sense if a student is able to excel in the Paper 2 Section B’s database question, it would propel them to secure a very good grade for the final examinations.
Strongly anchored in the O Level Chemistry syllabus
Our teachers are trained and knowledgeable in the O level chemistry SEAB syllabus.
Mr Lim believes in building a strong good foundation at the O levels and IP so students would feel more confident as they progress to the higher-level skills and more difficult questions required especially for Paper 2 Section B in the Chemistry paper. As students appreciate the topics better, they would find the questions easier to handle during their exams.
Strategic Exam Question Solving: Skill-based Learning and ODC Method
At Seb Academy, our teachers are trained to teach students how to draw links and connect the dots between information provided quickly. Through our strategies such as Skill-based learning and the in-house ODC method, and exam shortcuts, we are able to teach students the hacks of analysis quickly. Students can then gather information quickly and be ahead in their learning curve as they would develop a discipline to identify pivotal diagnosis in the question to solve it with much ease.
Well-curated resources targetted at data handling
Skill-based learning means we teach every student from foundational level and ground up our student’s understanding from the basics before moving to more advanced topic. Our Chemistry tuition is heavily committed to teaching using good education resources. This can only be achieved by years of sorting past year O level and exam questions to a highly curated skill-based assessment materials and exam packets.
Non-judgemental environment for learning
Students at Seb Academy are taught, from a simple understanding, data handling, to intuitive conclusion in paper 2 questions. From the particulate nature of matter, to metallic bonding to the periodic table.
